MotoGP: Jerez-Tests - Zufriedenheit vor der Winterpause

Nicky Hayden - Fünftbeste Rundenzeit in JerezThe DUCATI Marlboro Team completed their final test of 2008 today with Nicky Hayden fifth fastest at the end of a day that saw a particularly late start to the action on track. Despite slightly warmer temperatures than Wednesday, overnight rain made for a damp track surface until the early afternoon. Hayden took to the track shortly before 2pm and, like yesterday, he steadily improved his pace with each outing. The American worked calmly and methodically despite the limited time available as he continued to get comfortable with the Ducati and Bridgestone tyres. Both the rider and the team were satisfied with his progress. The next on-track appointment for the Ducati Marlboro Team is a three-day test from 5th-7th February 2009 at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia.

Nicky Hayden und Filippo Preziosi in JerezNicky Hayden - 1:40.486 (70 Runden): “We’ve made a big improvement today. It was important to have back-to-back days with similar conditions because at Valencia we only had one dry day and we weren’t able to check that the changes we made to the bike overnight had worked. Today my feeling with the bike was much better from the first run and it is important that we’ve taken over a second and a half off my best time from yesterday. We are still a second off the top guys and I know the last second is the most difficult to find but at the same time we’re less than a tenth off third fastest and the team is working well, I feel more and more comfortable with the bike and tyres and I can head home with a clear mind. I was pleased that Casey wanted to be here at the test. It has been useful to speak with him and Filippo (Preziosi) and it shows how tight the team is and how well everybody wants to do next season! I just want to finish by saying ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ to everybody in America!”

Mika Kallio - Desmosedici GP9 Tests in Jerez2008 testing are over for the Pramac Racing Team with the two new riders, Mika Kallio and Niccolò Canepa, who concluded respectively in seventh and eleventh position. Mika made it to finish with only just a tenth of a second over the third position occupied by Jorge Lorenzo and this underline the good feeling found with the DUCATI Desmosedici GP9 Sat by the Finnish rider. Niccolò has worked hard on the set up of the bike, concluding just over half a second from his teammate. Notwithstanding the rain that came down during the night, the track had dried out quickly allowing the riders to ride for many laps from 2pm till 5.30pm. After the winter break the Pramac Racing Team will be back on track for the Sepang test next 5th, 6th and 7th of February.

Mika Kallio – 1:40.564 (54 Runden): “It has been a good start for us. Apart Rossi and Pedrosa, that are at the moment too fast, we are only a tenth of a second from the third position occupied by Lorenzo. Yesterday I was a bit worried because this track was a bit too difficult with this bike, but instead today we have worked really well and we made it to achieve a good result. Of course lap times don’t count so much right now, but it give us good hopes for the next season.”

Niccolò Canepa - Desmosedici GP9 Tests in JerezNiccolò Canepa - 1:41.077 (48 Runden): “I am very happy by the work done in these two days. Our final position is not the best but we are only half of a second from the third position and it’s not too bad at this moment. I made it to improve my last year lap time on this circuit by more than one second and a half. Today we have concentrated to find a good rhythm and I had to get used to the new rear brake positioned on the handlebar. Everything things going in the right direction.”

MotoGP: Jerez-Test - Canepa mit schnellster DUCATI am 1. Tag

Nicky Hayden - Desmosedici GP9-Test in JerezThe Ducati Marlboro Team began their final MotoGP test session of the year today, ahead of the testing ban that gets underway on 1st December 2008 and runs until 20th January 2009. Recent Ducati signing Nicky Hayden lapped alongside factory test rider Vittoriano Guareschi, with team-mate Casey Stoner watching from pit wall. The Australian, who has stayed in Europe for the first phase of his recovery from an operation on his left wrist on the 30th October, was keen to link up with the team at the test, albeit as a spectator. An x-ray on the joint carried out in Modena yesterday was positive and Stoner will be able to start light training in around two weeks’ time. Despite bright sunshine in the south of Spain, low track temperatures prevented the riders from taking to the track until lunchtime today. Hayden was still able to rack up 69 laps, improving his feeling with the bike on each outing and ending the day as the 10th fastest rider on track.

Nicky Hayden - 1:42.098 (69 Runden): “It has been nice to get back on the bike and get on with the job in decent conditions. The new surface is perfect, the bumps have disappeared and the grip improved with every lap. They’ve done a great job here at Jerez. I’m quite happy with my feeling with the bike. The lap times came down with virtually every outing and that’s positive, even though I’m still clearly a good way off the pace. We’ve got a lot of work ahead but the team is really close and we know that bike has the potential, so all we can do is keep working. Both tyre specs that we tried today worked well, although the softer one was obviously the preferable option in these temperatures. They’ve got no problem in terms of durability and I’m slowly starting to get used to the feeling the Bridgestones give back. Hopefully the good weather continues tomorrow.”

Casey Stoner - Wegen Operation der Hand nur Zuschauer in JerezCasey Stoner: “Yesterday the doctors told me that everything is going okay with my wrist, now I must wait and see. With the new cast they did yesterday I will be able to start some training on a pushbike so that is positive. In a few days I’ll be heading back to Australia and it will be nice to be home for a while. It was a very strange feeling to be watching today instead of riding. This is probably the longest period I’ve gone without riding a bike at all since I was three years old! I’ll definitely have a lot of motivation to get back on track in February. It is good to watch the bikes on track together with my engineers and then speak about it with Filippo (Preziosi) and Nicky, to share our feelings and see what we can do to improve our machine for next season.”

Niccolò Canepa – 1:42.074 (50 Runden): “I am very satisfied by the lap times registered today because we haven’t done any modification on the chassis of the bike. We started with a good base set up and I preferred to don’t touch the bike to first understand its reactions in each part of the circuit. The bike has surely improved compared to last year. Tomorrow, if the weather conditions will allow us, we will try to make some modification on the set up of the bike to improve even more my feeling with it.”

Mika Kallio – 1:42.837 (64 Runden): “This is the second time on a MotoGP bike and I can consider my self quite happy on how things went. Lap times aren’t great, but at the moment this isn’t the priority. First of all I have to know the bike better. We have done a good amount of laps and I hope to do even more tomorrow because is really important for us. I have a good relationship with the Team and I am very happy to begin this adventure.”

Precision, performance and reliability. DUCATI has always sought nothing less than perfection: the same perfection seen in the new line of Performance Time watches.

Neue DUCATI ChronographenTo create - through the application of unique technology and superb design - the best sports motorcycles in the world: this, then, is the overriding goal that has powered the Ducati brand for over sixty years. By combining precision, performance and reliability, Ducati has always sought nothing less than perfection: the same perfection seen in the new line of Performance Time watches dedicated to Ducatisti and sports fans the world over, now including the Ducati One and Desmo collections. Produced and distributed by the Binda Group (a company which, like Ducati, is known for its technological research and attention to detail) these watches are available through selected retailers, including the most prestigious jewellery and watch stores.

Ducati One - Ducati One combines essential design and outstanding sports qualities to provide a remarkable blend of style and performance. Styling has been strongly influenced by the Italian-made motorcycles, with several watch design characteristics reflecting engine and fairing details: from the spheres inspired by the unique Trellis frame to the watchstrap patterns that recall tyre treads. With their sharp individuality, Ducati One watches embody a long history of breathtaking emotion.

Desmo - When top performance meets the most advanced technology, something assertive and unique is always created: a Ducati bike – or a Desmo watch. The name of this particular model derives from the Desmodromic system: a technological solution found in all Ducati models that all true motorcycle enthusiasts are well aware of.

Shane Byrne and Alex Polita, the two riders chosen by Marco Borciani to face the Superbike 2009 season, took to the track after the last round of the 2008 World Superbike, in which the Italian team showed to be one of the most competitive of the championship. The two days of testing were helpful especially to start to build the feeling between the team members and the riders, a feeling which is really cared by Borciani. As well, excellent times comes from the testing: Shane Byrne cut one tenth off the record of the track and Alex Polita was able to follow his new team-mate separated by less than one second.

SHANE BYRNE | DUCATI 1098 RS09 | 1’43.6: “I’m really glad with the result come from this first testing. The bike resembles the one by which I won the BSB title. So it was easy to get in the saddle of Sterilgarda’s bike especially because I felt immediately a member of this team. We did an hard work on a very funny track which gives to the rider wonderful emotions”.

ALEX POLITA | DUCATI 1098 RS09 | 1′44.5: “I found quickly a good pace thanks to the guys of the team and to my new team-mate who made me immediately comfortable. I got a good feeling with the Superbike from the first lap. It’s like an elder sister of the bike I’ve ridden until last Sunday. There are more things to set, that means I will have the opportunity to tailor the bike on me, as I’ve started to do in the Superstock thanks to the team which taught me so much”.
