MotoGP: Jerez-Test - Canepa mit schnellster DUCATI am 1. Tag

The Ducati Marlboro Team began their final MotoGP test session of the year today, ahead of the testing ban that gets underway on 1st December 2008 and runs until 20th January 2009. Recent Ducati signing Nicky Hayden lapped alongside factory test rider Vittoriano Guareschi, with team-mate Casey Stoner watching from pit wall. The Australian, who has stayed in Europe for the first phase of his recovery from an operation on his left wrist on the 30th October, was keen to link up with the team at the test, albeit as a spectator. An x-ray on the joint carried out in Modena yesterday was positive and Stoner will be able to start light training in around two weeks’ time. Despite bright sunshine in the south of Spain, low track temperatures prevented the riders from taking to the track until lunchtime today. Hayden was still able to rack up 69 laps, improving his feeling with the bike on each outing and ending the day as the 10th fastest rider on track.

Nicky Hayden - 1:42.098 (69 Runden): “It has been nice to get back on the bike and get on with the job in decent conditions. The new surface is perfect, the bumps have disappeared and the grip improved with every lap. They’ve done a great job here at Jerez. I’m quite happy with my feeling with the bike. The lap times came down with virtually every outing and that’s positive, even though I’m still clearly a good way off the pace. We’ve got a lot of work ahead but the team is really close and we know that bike has the potential, so all we can do is keep working. Both tyre specs that we tried today worked well, although the softer one was obviously the preferable option in these temperatures. They’ve got no problem in terms of durability and I’m slowly starting to get used to the feeling the Bridgestones give back. Hopefully the good weather continues tomorrow.”

Casey Stoner: “Yesterday the doctors told me that everything is going okay with my wrist, now I must wait and see. With the new cast they did yesterday I will be able to start some training on a pushbike so that is positive. In a few days I’ll be heading back to Australia and it will be nice to be home for a while. It was a very strange feeling to be watching today instead of riding. This is probably the longest period I’ve gone without riding a bike at all since I was three years old! I’ll definitely have a lot of motivation to get back on track in February. It is good to watch the bikes on track together with my engineers and then speak about it with Filippo (Preziosi) and Nicky, to share our feelings and see what we can do to improve our machine for next season.”

Niccolò Canepa – 1:42.074 (50 Runden): “I am very satisfied by the lap times registered today because we haven’t done any modification on the chassis of the bike. We started with a good base set up and I preferred to don’t touch the bike to first understand its reactions in each part of the circuit. The bike has surely improved compared to last year. Tomorrow, if the weather conditions will allow us, we will try to make some modification on the set up of the bike to improve even more my feeling with it.”

Mika Kallio – 1:42.837 (64 Runden): “This is the second time on a MotoGP bike and I can consider my self quite happy on how things went. Lap times aren’t great, but at the moment this isn’t the priority. First of all I have to know the bike better. We have done a good amount of laps and I hope to do even more tomorrow because is really important for us. I have a good relationship with the Team and I am very happy to begin this adventure.”

MotoGP: Stoner verlässt Krankenhaus nach Operation

Casey Stoner underwent successful surgery on his wrist on Thursday, at the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Policlinico in Modena. Antonio Landi, Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Hand Surgery, was assisted by arthroscopic specialist Dr Luigi Pederzini and by Dr Norman Della Rosa.

Using arthroscopic surgery, two floating bodies were removed from the area of the styloid process of the ulna bone (lower arm). Stoner was treated for pseudoarthrosis on his left scaphoid before the removal of a staple (which was inserted in Stoner’s scaphoid during an operation in 2003), and a bone graft using the Herbert Bone Screw System, which is designed to promote early active motion. Stoner wanted to give his personal thanks to the medical team and also to Ducati Corse’s trusted consultant, Prof. Fabio Catani from the Rizzoli Hospital in Bologna, who has provided crucial advice and support over recent months, helping to set up the operation with the team led by Dr Antonio Landi. The Australian was discharged this afternoon and will begin his rehabilitation over the next few days on his return home to Switzerland.

MotoGP: Motegi - Stoner Trainingsschnellster am 1. Tag

Die Verteidigung seines WM-Titels ist für Casey Stoner in den verbleibenden vier Saisonrennen kaum noch möglich, doch seinen unbedingten Siegeswillen hat der Australier deshalb nicht verloren. Nach einer überzeugenden Leistung unter Wet-Bedingungen am Vormittag beendete Stoner auf abgetrockneter Strecke mit der Tagesbestzeit von 1:48.121 in der zweiten Trainingssession den ersten Tag zum Grand Prix von Japan. Mit sieben Hundertsten Rückstand landete Dani Pedrosa, der erstmals mit Brigdestone Reifen auf die Honda Teststrecke ging, auf dem 2. Platz vor den WM-Führenden Valentino Rossi. Mit einer erneut starken Leistung fuhr Sylvain Guintoli die Alice DUCATI auf Platz sechs in der Tageswertung, gefolgt von Nicky Hayden und Marco Melandri. Mit der neuntbesten Rundenzeit schaffte auch Toni Elias den Sprung in die Top-Ten.

MotoGP: Motegi - Das 1. Training

Das japanische Wetter empfing die Teams zum MotoGP Wochenende in Motegi mit bewölktem Himmel und Nieselregen, so dass das erste freie Training unter Wet-Bedingungen gestartet wurde. Trainingsschnellster unter den schwierigen Bedingungen war heute Vormittag DUCATI Neuverpflichtung Nicky Hayden, der sich vor die WM-Führenden Valentino Rossi und Weltmeister Casey Stoner setzen konnte. Den Sprung in die Top-Ten der Bestzeitenliste schafften ebenso Regenspezialist Sylvain Guintoli und Teamkollege Toni Elias, die mit einer überzeugenden Leistung auf die Plätze fünf und sieben fuhren.

MotoGP: Motegi - Keine Probleme mit der Hand

Obwohl die Moto GP- Strecke von Motegi einige Strecknabschnitte hat, wo hart gebremst und anschließend voll beschleunigt werden muss, sieht Casey Stoner am kommenden Wochenende beim Grand Prix von Japan vorerst keine großen Probleme für seine Fraktur im linken Handgelenk auf sich zukommen. Vielmehr will Stoner versuchen, die Saison komplett zu Ende zu fahren, auch wenn Teamchef Livio Suppo unlängst die unausweichliche Operation noch während der laufenden Saison als Option nannte. “Das Handgelenk hat mir in den letzten Wochen keine großen Probleme bereitet”, zeigt sich Stoner optimistisch. “Es scheint sich vielmehr mit der Zeit zu bessern, so dass ich es kaum erwarten kann auf’s Motorrad zurückzukehren und ein besseres Ergebnis zu holen als die letzten.”

Mit 87 Punkten Rückstand auf den derzeitigen WM-Führenden Valentino Rossi hat Casey Stoner als amtierender Weltmeister jedoch nur noch geringe Chancen seinen Titel zu verteidigen. In den letzten beiden Grand Prix- Rennen stürzte der Australier in Führung liegend und musste seine Hoffnungen auf eine erfolgreiche Titelverteidigung in den Kiesbetten von Misano und Indianapolis begraben. Vielmehr bietet sich in Motegi für Rossi die Möglichkeit, die Nachfolge von Stoner genau auf dem Kurs anzutreten, wo der DUCATI Pilot im vergangenen Jahr den Titel holte.

Casey Stoners letzter Erfolg datiert auf das legendäre Rennen von Laguna Seca im Juli, so dass er alle Hoffnungen auf die am Wochenende beginnende Fernost- Tour durch Motegi, Phillip Island und Sepang setzt. “Sicherlich habe ich den Titelgewinn im letzten Jahr in bester Erinnerung, doch ich schaue lieber in die Zukunft als in de Vergangenheit. Motegi vermittelt mir den Eindruck, dass sie mehr eine Auto- als eine Motorrad- Rennstrecke ist, denn sie hat viele harte Brems- und Beschleunigungszonen und wenige flüssige Streckenabschnitte. Wie dem auch sei. es ist eine spaßige Strecke und ich denke, sie passt gut zu unserem Motorrad und den Reifen.”

DUCATI MotoGP-Teamchef Livio Suppo erklärte gestern, das Casey Stoner die laufende Saison wegen seiner Handgelenkverletzung vorzeitig beenden könnte, um sich einer Operation zu unterziehen. Seit dem Grand Prix in Misano leidet Stoner unter starken Schmerzen im Handgelenk, die auf eine Verletzung aus der Saison 2003 zurückgehen.
